Are you ready for the General Election?

With the General Election being held on Thursday 6 May, Chichester District Council is urging residents to secure their right to vote.

If you are not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to vote. Registering to vote only takes a few minutes: print off a form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, or by calling the Council on 01243 521010 to obtain a form.

The last date that new applications to register to vote can be received by the Council is Tuesday 20 April. If you would like to apply to vote by post, completed applications need to be received at the District Council Offices at East Pallant, Chichester, by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. If you would like to appoint a proxy (someone to vote on your behalf at the polling station), then completed applications need to be received at the District Council Offices at East Pallant by 5pm on Tuesday 27 April.

Peter Buglass, Electoral Services Manager at Chichester District Council, says: “Not everyone realises they need to re-register every year. A registration form was sent out in September 2009 to all the households in the district. If you’ve moved house since then and haven’t registered your new details, you won’t be able to vote.”
