On 25th September 2011, The Shore Inn, East Wittering held a Raft Race off East Wittering Beach.
The weather was fair, although the sea was cold as the intrepid sailors set off out to sea on their handmade craft. The course was set to circumnavigate two marker buoys and return to the shore.
Vessels of all shapes and sizes entered the water, keen to be the first to return. Some were of a conventional design – such as the sleek catamaran, whilst others were fashioned of more eclectic materials such as inflatable sheep!
Many fell by the wayside, but the race was finally (and unsurprisingly) won by the catamaran.
Great fun was had by all the participants and onlookers and, due to the stirling work of the bucket rattlers, a good deal of money was collected for charity.
