Armistice Day Memorial Service
The Memorial Service to those who had fallen in the two world wars and the many conflicts that have followed was once again held at the East Wittering Remembrance Stone with some 250 residents and friends paying their respects.
This was a unique occasion due to the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month occurring in 2011. It was a perfect day and a small parade consisting of the Royal British Legion Standard Bearers, accompanied by the RBL Ladies section, children from the Boys’ Brigade, support from both the East and West Wittering Primary schools, the local Fire Service fire fighters with their appliance, and 1st Responders marched to the Stone, where the Service was conducted by Fr. Steve Davies.
Fortunately Cakeham Road had been closed to vehicles, enabling many more to join the congregation. Unfortunately the Tannoy system failed so much of the service wasn’t heard by everyone, but this will be corrected for next year.
