Joe O'Sullivan

Joe O'Sullivan

Chairman of the Parish Council

My wife and I have lived on the Manhood Peninsula for over 25 years. I recently retired as a Pensions Consultant and my wife retired from the Wittering Chemist at the same time. I have a grown up married daughter who is a teacher, a son who works in Tangmere and now two grandsons. My priorities for East Wittering and Bracklesham are:

Increase leisure and health facilities
Maintain and improve our sea defences
Improve the promenade along the sea front
Improve the road access to Chichester
Improve the facilities for the under 18s

Vice-Chairman of the Parish Council

I moved to East Wittering with my wife, Carol, in 1998, having spent 35 years managing young offenders. I am currently Pastor of the United Reformed Church in Oakfield Avenue and my wife and I are registered foster carers. Since moving to East Wittering I have been involved with the Royal British Legion Club of which I am a honorary Vice President and I continue to instruct Chinese Martial Arts in the village. I have been on the Council for the last 4 years and my main concern is the lack of infrastructure to cope with the burgeoning housing stock, which has been foisted on the village. I am also involved in the Bracklesham Park development along with the District Council and the BBCA.

My wife Madge and I have been happily settled in East Wittering for nearly ten years, our association goes back a further twenty when we had a site on the Bracklesham Bay Boat & Caravan Club in East Bracklesham Lane. We first met in 1944 whilst serving with the 14th Army in Burma during WWII and next year are looking forward to celebrating our Diamond wedding, together with our two lovely daughters and their husbands. I became a councillor in 2003, in order to serve the residents in every way possible, and to help make life in this lovely village as enjoyable as possible.

I am married with two grown up children. I first came to the village in 1955 as a holiday maker at Redskin Caravan Site, East Bracklesham Drive Eleven years later after marrying we ran several businesses. Our children were educated at East Wittering School and are now both married living locally and presenting us with grandchildren this year. My wife Penny worked beside me in business and for several years was secretary and fund raiser for East Wittering School. I have always appreciated the unique quality of this Parish and would like to help preserve its character for us and future generations.

I have lived in the Witterings area since I was a boy, apart from a brief period when I was serving during the war. Eventually I settled back in East Wittering, with my Wife & purchased a shop in Shore Road in 1963 retiring in 2003. I served in Chichester Police force as a Special Sergeant during 1965 -1982. I have been an active member of the Parish Council for 20 years. I have seen the Witterings grow and expand over the years and would like to see the infrastructure & services, including Policing, commensurate with the expanded population.

I came to the Witterings in 1994, having lived in Chiswick, West London, from childhood. I have three adult daughters, one of which lives in Australia. My husband is an active member of Earnley Church and is Churchwarden. As a Parish Councillor, I hope to fulfill my duties to the very best of my ability, with particular interests in coastal defences, parking problems within the village centres and maintaining recreational open spaces.

I have lived in Bracklesham for 20 years. I worked at West Wittering School for 9 years as Bursar before retiring and joined the Parish Council in June 2003. I feel very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country with so many local amenities close by. There are always improvements to be made, improving the parking in the Parish is one that I am particularly involved in. I enjoy taking part in community events and am never short of things to do. My favourite place is the beach where we walk our dogs twice a day.

I moved to East Wittering from Chessington 18 years ago to run Calamity’s Café. My two sons were born here and both attended local schools. I support the local St. Anne’s Church and encourage and support local community events. Living and working in this Parish is important to me as the community aspect is the environment in which I want to work and raise my children which is why I joined the Parish Council. Before I joined the Parish Council I was involved in the improvement of the Christmas Lights and fundraising for this continues to be one of my favourite tasks as it combines both my aims.
