We understand that residents wish to help and in the short term we are advising that they should regulalry check and keep an eye on their immediate neighbours until more robust systems are in place. We do not recommend sharing personal information or entrusting money with anyone who is not already known personally to you.
For very vulnerable and elderly residents we recommend that they register for West Sussex meals on wheels (https://www.apetito.co.uk/hot-meals-delivery-service/) or call 08082 232 993, as this is a tried and trusted service with good infrastructure and capacity that will ensure that they remain provisioned whilst unable to leave the house.
We are also advising isolated or vulnerable residents to register with the ‘Your Good Morning Call’ service, for a daily phone call to check on welfare and provide companionship and social contact – their number is 01243 964024.
We are collecting the contact details of individuals who would like to volunteer to help do more than keep an eye on their neighbours. If you submit your details we will be in touch to arrange for you to undertake an enhanced DBS check and online training in infection control procedures and adult safeguarding. We will then be in a position to assist the statutory authorities over the coming weeks as more formal support programmes are put in place that require community volunteers.
